Show Pioneer Monument Plans Approved by SUP Plans for the development of an ususually fine monument to pioneers of this area were announced an-nounced at the Sons of Utah Pioneers Pio-neers outing at New Harmony Saturday evening. Plans for the monument have been under way for some time. but until recently did not include in-clude nearly -an extensive a monument as is now proposed. The monument will be a replica rep-lica of the first iron foundry established es-tablished west of the Mississippi River, which was located on the banks of Coal Creek in Cedar City. The charcoal oven of that day will be duplicated as will the water wheel, old blacksmith shop, and the pattern shop giving giv-ing present day residents and vistors an exact picture of the conditions under which iron was produced here in pioneer days. The exact location has not yet been determined, but plans for the structure are now being prepared pre-pared and development of the monument is assured, Clem Judd, president of the local SUP chapter, chap-ter, f |
