Show Redmen Win Two Pre-Season Games ' Cedar High School Redmen basketball squad ended the pre-league pre-league schedule Friday and Saturday Sat-urday evening with two wins over teams rated as corupara-v corupara-v Uvely strong clubs. Friday evening the Redmen defeated the Milford Tigers by a score of 55 to 43 and Saturday evening Coach Bruce Decker's crew defeated Basic High School of Henderson, Nev. 64 to 51. Basic held a previous win over the Redmen. Against the Milford Tigers Friday Fri-day evening at the CSU field-house, field-house, the Redmen started off like a house a fire hitting the first five shots they took from the field and moved out to a quick 10 to 2 lead. The hot streak didn't last and the Tigers came back with a steady pace and with the Red-men Red-men missing four successive fouls, tied the game up midway in the second period of play with a score of 17 all. Kent Smith of the Redmen hit one from the field and Wadworth of Milford retalllated to knot It at 19 all. Then Smith hit again on a short jumper and Wads worth of Milford connected from the foul line for a halftlme score of 20 to 19. As the second half opened the Redmen again moved out Into the lead with Smith and Paul Stokes each hitting a pair from the field, David Higbee connected connec-ted from the foul line and Neil Roberts tipped one in. N. Roberts added another and Kent Farns-worth Farns-worth hit two long set shots near the end of the period to give the Redmen a 35 to 31 point lead at the three quarter mark. It was a 17 point output In the third period for the Redmen. In the fourth period Smith again opened the scoring hitting from the field, Stokes added another an-other and N. Roberts hit two buckets before Milford got back into the scoring column. That gave Cedar City a 46 to 31 lead and they held that lead for the remainder of the period and a final 55 to 4T win. N. Roberts went wild in the game Saturday evening against Basic leading the Redmen to a 64 to 51 win. Roberts hit 13 fieldgoals and connected on 10 for 18 from the foul line for a 36 point output. The fast moving Wolves of Basic set a terrific pace in the contest that resulted In numerous numer-ous miscues on the part of both teams. Loose balls were the rule rather than the exception and cross court passes were being grabbed all night by both teams. Basic moved out to an early lead In the first period of piny, 6 to 3 but N. Roberts set the pace with three buckets in the final three minutes and added a foul shot to put the Redmen In the lead 12 to 10 at the end of the period. The Redmen were never bested best-ed again In the contest but it was touch and go throughout. The Redmen moved out by seven points near the end of the second period with Farnsworth and D. Roberts hitting long shots. Basic bounced back to narrow the gap to two, 27 to 25 with just seconds remaining and N. Roberts fired up a 20 foot hook shot from the side as the gun sounded to split the nets and give the Redmen a four point advantage at half-time, half-time, 29 to 25. In the third period tiie Red-men Red-men again moved out early by as much as nine points, 36 to 27 only to have Basic reduce that margin to four, but four field-goals, field-goals, two by N. Roberts, one by D. Roberts and one by Smith gave the Redmen a 46 to 39 advantage ad-vantage at the end of the period. Fourth period was played on a near even basis until the final minutes of play as the margin was Increased by the Redmen as Basic attempted to press to get back Into the contest N. Roberts Ro-berts hit on a three point situation, situa-tion, added another foul, Stokes tanked one from the front of the key and D. Roberts ended the scoring with a 15 footer from the sidelines and give the Red-men Red-men their biggest advantage 64 13 48.
