Show All-Stars Celebrate Stay in Tourney Area Cedar City Pony League all-stars, all-stars, although they did not fare so well In tournament action In the Western Region playoffs At Watsonville, Calif., last week, nevertheless, had a most enjoyable enjoy-able experience and participated in a number of "extra-curricular" activities on the week-long trip. Enroute to the California city the squad spent the first night in Carson City, Nevada's state capital. cap-ital. Second day's travel took the group through the southern route of Lake Tahoe and on in to Watsonville. That evening the friendly people peo-ple of Wasonvllle hosted all of the participating teams at a banquet at which time each of the players was given a Pony League pin representing his participation in the tournament. Cedar City opened play Friday Fri-day at 10 a. m. in fog, a cli matic condition, not entirely familiar fa-miliar to the Cedar City boys. As the result of a lay-over In tournament play from Friday to Sunday the team spent Saturday afternoon and evening at Santa Cruz Boardwalk on the oceansido. The park featured a roller coaster, coast-er, many other rides, a fun house a haunted house and many other oth-er amusement features. That eve-! nlng the team dined at the St.' George Coffee Shop in Santa Cruz. ... In Watsonville a number of swimming pools were made available to the boys and most of them took advantage of the opportunity op-portunity to swim. Another out-standing out-standing feature for our local boys was the bowling alley, which became a constant attraction attrac-tion to them. One important thing that Cedar Ce-dar had that no other team could boast was a "Fury 6." Sunday, following1 the final gamo, 'fot Cedar City, the team went swimming In Watsonville's YMCA pool and attended a local motion picture. Monday began the return trip and the group traveled all the way to Las Vegas, Nev., where through the help of Harvey De-laney De-laney of Cedar City, who attended attend-ed the games at Watsonville, they stayed at the El Cortez Hotel. Ho-tel. Operators of the El Cortez invited the boys to attend the Monday evening show at the ho-tel. ho-tel. an outstanding Ice skating review and featuring the Gay. lords, popular male 'trio. The boys all had a swim In the Las Vegas municipal pool. 'Most ot the boys returned home Tuesday, arriving In the early afternon. lengeT" he concluded. |
