Show Testing Program Boosted In Virgin Fields The Black Gold and M'.nes Cor-poration Cor-poration of Provo, Utah announced announc-ed plans this week to begin work on oil drillings in Virgin to greater depths than before explored ex-plored In anticipation of reaching reach-ing greater deposits of oil in that vicinity. This announcement was made by Ben II. Bulloch, president of the company and a leader in the development of the potential oil reserves in that area. According to John W. McArth-ur, McArth-ur, director in charge of open-Hons, open-Hons, rigging equipment will be in the Virgin area within an approximate ap-proximate three-week period to begin work. From that time it Is expected that three or four weeks will be necessary to reach depths of between 1000 and 1200 feet where greater oil reserves are expected ex-pected to be found. Testing on No. 1 Drilling will commence on Bulloch Bul-loch Well No. 1 which is located in Virgin Just south of the Zlon Canyon road. This well, already a producer that has been capped Is at the present time down to a depth of 488 feet. Oil was found in the well at a depth of 187 feet; however, greater oil reserves, re-serves, according to geological re-i re-i ports, are expected to be found I at the 1000 foot levels. In addition addi-tion to oil it is anticipated that some natural gas deposits may be tapped as well. McArth ur Indicated that a hard (Continued on Page Three) BEGIN OIL DRILLING AT VIRGIN (continued bom Ftcnt Pag) i formation has stopped drilling at greater depths in the Virgin fields in the past, making it impossible im-possible to test out the geological geologi-cal findings. Equipment has not been heavy enough to handle the test drillings. Black Gold and Mining Corp. expects to have equipment sufficiently suffi-ciently capable to handle the operation op-eration and drilling will start as soon as this rigging can be brought Into the area. Follows Phophcies Bulloch, who has followed the prophecies of L D S President Brlgham Young, who predicted one of the nation's greatest oil booms in this region, has been criticized for a number of years for his extensive work in the area. However, at the present time two other oil companies are working wells in the area at the higher stratas. Bulloch's company com-pany has five wells that are already producers and he is making mak-ing these further tests to determine deter-mine geological data which indicate indi-cate a possible great oif and gas reserve at greater depths than present drillings have reached. A refinery erected in Virgin operated for a number of years and then closed down. Under a lease from an out-of-state company, com-pany, this refinery has been enlarged en-larged and is again in operation. Largo Field Possible If tests being conducted by this corporation are successful as the backers expect, a potentially large oil field is In the offing. Leases of land in the area are already at a premium Bulloch pointed out, although the field at the present stage could be considered a wildcat operation. Successful tests would in all like-lihood like-lihood bring immediate action from major oil companies, along with the Black Gold and Mines Corporation for further development develop-ment of the deposits. As pointed out by McArthur, Cedar City could stand to reap many benefib from a major oil discovery in Virgin. Cedar City Is the closest railhead to the potential po-tential field and should the field develop and the refinery bj inoro firmly established It would be-come be-come the logical shipping point. Only time will tell but follow-ing follow-ing the testing" by . Black Gold and Mines Corp. who own a major ma-jor portion of property in the immediate vicinity of Virgin future fu-ture developments will proceed at a rapid pace, these backers pointed out. |
