Show Practice Sessions Called for "Pony Leaguers" Another baseball league for young bys of the community, a Pony League, has been organized in Cedar City, and practice sessions ses-sions will get under way this week end. The Pony League is for 13 and 14 year old boys, and is organized organ-ized on a national scale similar to that of the "Little League", which was organized here two weeks ago. The Little League is for boys under 12 years of age, or any boy who does not reach 13 before August 1 of the year in which he plays. After passing the Little League age limit the boys automatically go into the Po?iy League and can compete for two years. Four teams will be organized in the Pony League as in the Little League, except that they will be sponsored by commercial institutions rather than by civic organizations as in the Little League. Teams will be sponsored by the Utah Construction company, com-pany, Utah Parks company, the Arden Dairy and the Southern Utah Power company. Cleo Petty, head of the physical physi-cal education department at the Branch Agricultural college, has been named president of the Pony League, a position he also holds in the Little League. Elected Elect-ed to serve with him were Rex Harris, vice president; Rudy Iverson, secretary and treasurer; Max Whitney, Ren Taylor, Yorke Nelson, Ralph Box and Ralph Thomas, board members, and Leo Cahoon, player agent. The Pony League officials will accept bids from Cedar City firms for furnishing players uniforms uni-forms and equipment until noon Sunday, April 5. All boys eligible for participation partici-pation in the Pony League and interested in playing baseball are asked to meet at the B A C fieldhouse at 1 p. m., Saturday, April 3, to start practice. They will practice each Saturday afternoon af-ternoon until school is out, after which more frequent practice sessions ses-sions will be arranged. The practice prac-tice schedule for the Little Little League will be announced during the week, Coach Petty stated. |
