Show Remove Fire Hazards Spring clean-up campaigns are on throughout the state, clearing wards, 'fields, roadsides and dumps of the winter's accumulations of dry weeds, broken limbs, windblown wind-blown papers, stray cartons, and all kinds of rubbish. The state forester-firewarden is especially interested in these cleanups for the help they give in getting rid of dry materials that might carry fire. Clearing out rubbish amounts to fire-proofing. It's suggested that in the spring clean-up, special attention at-tention be given to searching out and removing things that may cause a fire hazard. Clean-up committees could profit by getting firemen on the committee to train them in spotting fire hazards that could easily be removed right along w ith the regular job. This would be a great help not only in removing immediate fire hazards but also in training train-ing every clean-up hand in looking for and recognizing fuels that can carry fire. Firemen would rather help a community in preventing prevent-ing fires than to have to go out and fight fires resulting from neglect to remove dangerous fuels. The fellow who has lost his haystack or his house to a fire that started in backyard rubbish knows the value of keeping the yard clear. Spring clean-ups are a great institution. May they emphasize fire proofing and continued to serve the community. |
