J MILTON SEVY Preparations for the 1953 Southern Utah Livestock Show, to be held in Cedar City on Sept. 10, 11 and 12, have boon started with the naming of a show manager man-ager and selection of show association assoc-iation officers. Kumen S. Gardner, Cedar City cattleman, has been named show manager this year to succeed Alex Williams, and Milton Sevy has been named as president of the association to succeed Carlos Jones in that position. Darrell Matthews of the Branch Agricultural Agricul-tural college faculty has been named as assistant show manager, man-ager, to succeed V. R. Magleby, also a B A C staff member. C. L. Ewing, Cedar City, and Rass Gardner, St. George, will continue as vice presidents of the association, associa-tion, and Neil K. Boyter, has been retained as secretary and treasurer, a position he has held for the past six years. With the exception of Sevy, Gardner and Matthews, the executive exe-cutive committee remains the same as it was last vear, with Dr. John Beal, Alex ' Williams, Eldro Rigby, Ewing and Boyter, remaining as members of the group. Committees will be appointed in the near future to start detailed de-tailed preparations of the show for this year. The show association has accepted ac-cepted a cash contribution from the Escalante Valley Cattle Association, Asso-ciation, with the understanding that the money must be used to help finance additional facilites for the show, and not for operation of the event. Tentative plans call for the erection of additional ad-ditional barn space on the Branch Agricultural college campus, cam-pus, and also a new auction arena. The area on the campus where the cattle division has been held in past years, will be the site for the new men's dormitory and it is expected that construction of the new building will be under way before the show opens, necessitating nec-essitating utilizing other space. If the building plans are accepted ac-cepted the auction arena will be located immediately west of the present show barn, with a new cattle barn to be erected just west of the arena. |
