Show Civic Clubs Oppose Report of Resource Commission At their monthly meeting, held! in I.oa recently the Associated Civic clubs adopted a resolution, strongly opposing the recent re-port re-port of the President's Water Resources Re-sources Policy Commission, concerning con-cerning the Colorado River Basin, Ba-sin, in this report. Among recommendations made by the Policy Commission was one that congress set up a separate sep-arate River Basin Commission, for each of the major basins, under un-der the direction of an independent indepen-dent chairman, appointed by the President, and responsible only to him. The Civic clubs' resolution states that this is the old "Valley "Val-ley Authority" method, to which the Civics clubs have always been opposed, and that it would give the appointed chairmen too wide an authority over water and power, wildlife and recreation, that these powers belong to the people, to be used by them through their elected representatives represen-tatives in county, state and national na-tional government, and ask that the appointed chairmen be instructed in-structed to work closely, with county and state officials, and with our congressional delegation, delega-tion, as the people are the ones most directly affected. |
