Show Cedar Official Announces Dedication Plans City Manager Tom Thorsen announces an-nounces that plans are nearly complete for a mammoth dedication dedi-cation program of the new Cedar City street lighting system and other improvements. The ceremonies cere-monies will be in the form of a Southern Utah Jamboree, and will be held as an entertainment feature of the annual Utah Municipal Mu-nicipal League convention to be held here on Aug. 30, 31 and Sept. 1. The new lighting system is now being installed and the oil mulch capping on the street is expected to be completed in time for the convention. Mr. Thorsen reports that Main street will be roped off at Center Cen-ter street and 200 North street, and the dance jamboree will be held in the street. The affair will be held on the evening of Friday, Aug. 31, and will open with dedication ceremonies, featuring fea-turing an address by Governor J. Bracken Lee, an excellent mu sical program and an unusual demonstration by the General Electric company. The street dancing will begin immediately after the ceremonies ceremon-ies and will continue until midnight, mid-night, with square dancing and modern dancing to the best music mu-sic possible throughout the evening. eve-ning. Square dance teams from all parts of southern Utah will be invited in-vited to participate and a gala affair is assured. The entire street will be covered with a loud speaker system that will provide music for the dancers no matter mat-ter where they may be on the street. To be feautred during the square dance part of the program pro-gram will be Patty Cake Polka, Oh Johnny, Canadian Barn Dance, Waltz of the Bells, Mormon Mor-mon Schottisehe, Rye Waltz, My Little Girl, Jesse Polka, Black Hawk Waltz, Fowrd 6 right hand over, San Antonio Rose, Alabama Ala-bama Jubilee, Polka Square, Goodbye My Lover Goodbye, Square Dance Hoedown, Texas Star and Yuciapi Twister. Callers for these will be Mrs. LaVeve Whetten and Melvin Condie of Cedar City, and Cliff Forbush of Monroe. The Jeleznik orchestra from Salt Lake City, one of the best in the state, will furnish the mu-sue mu-sue for the modern dancing during dur-ing the evening. |
