Show Water Supply Increased Much progress has been made in the past few months in providing a greater culinary water supply for Cedar City, the result of persistent effort on the part of the City Water Board, the City Council, the City Manager and the Water System Supervisor. Probably of greatest importance has been the development develop-ment of a new spring about three miles up Cedar canyon, which has added 250 gallons of water per minute to the supply. This amount will be increased considerably when work at the new spring is completed and when a larger pump is installed. This development is of unusual importance import-ance because of the fact that it was added through the development of what looked like a seep, and not through acquiring the rights to an already flowing spring. This together to-gether with the fact that it was developed at a very low cost, makes it one of greater importance. While water is now being pumped into the system it would be possible, through laying a minimum amount of pipe line it could be placed in the system on a gravity flow. This will probably be done in the future. Another important addition to the supply comes from the well drilled at Martin's flat. This is now being pumped into the system. The addition of these two sources of supply sup-ply has increased the flow from Cedar canyon from 600 gallons a minute to 1000 gallons. The addition of the new storage tank north of town is also an important improvement, although it will be of little lit-tle benefit for this summer, since it is not quite complete and because of the low water supply. However, it will mean much to the system because of the increased storage stor-age space, and because it will do much to equalize the pressure in the system throughout the entire city. These developments will, not of course, meet future needs for additional water, but they have done much to overcome a serious current shortage, and will continue to meet the needs of the city until greater growth is experienced. |
