Sor enson as mail carrier helps to provide excellent service. When people get the dancing fever they call up the Mendon Jazz orchestra which is the leading lead-ing orchestra for the number of pieces in the valley. This jazz has-made has-made a very goo dname for its-self, its-self, playing an average of four nights a week since it was organized organ-ized 14 years ago. Prof. W. H. Terry of South Cache high school instructs a music class in band during the summer months which we appreciate very much. It surely is a wonderful help to our young musicians. Most of the class are attending school at South Cache and play in the band. Miss Mozelle Barrett conducts a class of students playing the piano at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Barrett. Aa has been stated before, our town ranks among the leaders In the chicken industry which continues con-tinues to grow as it has proven to be a success and works in very i nicely with other farm activities. The production and grade of eggs rank high, Great care being taken tak-en ini the selecting of the fowls. This industry necessitates considerable consid-erable building of coops to house the flocks. The leading poultry raisers of Mendon are Allen Willie, Eager Hancock, Arthur Kidman, Gwen Smith, H. C. Stauffer, Charles Ladle, Asa Baker, O. G. Bird and William Bartlett. All of these nave one or more modern and up to date chicken, houses, being be-ing equipped with sufficient ventilation, ven-tilation, lights automatic watering troughs, proper feed and grit racks, etc The cost of their coops range, according to size, from 2 to 5 hundred dollars. I Three truck loads of milk leave j the ward every day in the week, I including Sunday and holidays, for i the Morning milk company at I Wellsville. I Along with the dairying comes jthe farming industry. This year the crops of wheat, alfalfa seed, beets and potatoes have been fairly fair-ly good. The alfalfa seed crop this year far exceeded the crops of any previous year in the history his-tory of Mendon. FERA work of the past year has been a great help in providing work for the citizens of the town. A number of men have had employment em-ployment at the Hyrum dam. The l money they have received has been a great help financially. We boast of one of the finest city water plants in the state which is owned and operated by the residents of Mendon. The water wa-ter is piped to about 100 homes and a goodly number of these homes have modern plumbing. All the homes of Mendon are served ser-ved with light and power by the Utah Power and Light company. There has been a considerable increase in the number of radios ini the homes here over last year. Nearly every family own their own touring cars, and several have a truck for the warm work. Many improvements have been made in Mendon during the year in the way of building, painting, planting shrubs, lawns and flowers, flow-ers, in repairing fence and in constructing con-structing new homes. Some of the flowers raised this year won blue ribbons at the Relief Society's annual convention held at Hyrum during the summer. For recreation we have picture shows twice a month .dancing and numerous parties and socials conducted con-ducted by various auxiliary organizations. organ-izations. Ecclesistically, our ward measures up very favorably as compared with other wards of Its Biz. There are 9 marriages, 8 births and 6 deaths recorded here. The health of our citizens has By MRS. The leaves have fallen from the ees and the leaves have been rn off the calendar reminding e 450 inhabitants that the year l54 is drawing to a close. Men-on Men-on is a city corporation. The fol-iwing fol-iwing wide awake business men reside over it: Mayor Nephl Sor-isen, Sor-isen, Henry Jensen, Joseph N. jrensen, Melvin Muir. David Lust. Earl Bird, councilmen, with . C. Stauffer as town marshal . ,Jj peace officer and Jens Jen-n Jen-n as justice of the peace. The ward is ruled over by H. . Sorensen, bishop; Oliver Taylor id Elmer Hancock as counselors; L' B. Whitney, ward clerk. Nearly 11 persons are enrolled on L. D. church records. The place of Vihip is the.Mendon ward chap- located on the southwest cor-er cor-er of the public park, which is bunded on the east by the main teet of the city. This chapel is po equipped with a recreation ill for ward amusement and a ffun heating system. The ward 1 iports a fully organized choir ith Joseph C. We boast of hav-k hav-k one of the outstanding Sun-W Sun-W schools in the Hyrum stake, ft (i Claud A. Sorensen as super-lendant, super-lendant, and Lon Wood and hn Longstroth as counselors, the ward has two missionaries the field at the present time. They are Zeno Anderson who is in Sweden, and Edna M. Darley in the East Central Mission. The Boy Scouts of the ward took a trip to the Yellowstone park this summer, accompanied by leaders Durrell Hughes and Arthur Ar-thur Kidman. Mendon has enrolled at the U. S. A. C five students. Thirty-five are registered at South Cache high school. Laura Hughes is in training at the Budge Memorial hospital. Two graduate nurses of the hospital are holding responsible respon-sible positions in a hospital at St. George, Utah, and Idaho Falls, Idaho. One former student of U. S. A. C, Cleve Hancock, is at the present time attending Deis-el Deis-el School of Engineering at San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Mar-celle Mar-celle Bird, Miss Valerie Hardman are attending school at B. Y. U. at Provo. Miss Grace Ladle Is studying study-ing beauty culture at Salt Lake. The Mendon district school has an enrollment of 120 students with Durrell Hughes as principal and Or lie Bird and Veda Sorenson as instructors. The enrollment this year is the largest the school has had for several years. Our town furnishes six teachers for the schools in other districts and one professor at the University of Idaho at Moscow. Mendon is supporting a dry goods store owned and operated by John Anderson, which carries a complete line of dry goods, groceries gro-ceries and meat. He also sells gas and oil. The other store in Mendon is operated by Henry Stauffer. He has a well stocked general store and the Mendon Garage, operated by Verl Shelton who does all kinds of repair work been exceptionally good during , the past year. There has been no contagious diseases. Several of our citizens hava moved away during the past year , seeking new homes in other sec-. sec-. tions where reports are that good ' locations have been found.
