Show LOGAN MADE DESIRABLE PLACE IN WHICH TO LIVE THROUGH CMC IMPROVEMENT Mayor A. G. Lundstrom's Administration of City Affairs Af-fairs Entitled to Plaudits of All Loyal Citizens Street and Water Departments Receive Attention. Year after year under the administration of Mayor A. G. Lundstrom, Logan city has experienced out-! standing material progress, and the past year has been! VDRCGGinGS no exception. Perhaps the outstanding! project completed in Logan in 1933 wasj ! the making of smooth streets in practi-J ; cally every section of the city with a gravel and oil surface. The year 1934 j just closing has seen many changes and; much accomplishment throughout the! various departments oi city government. Outstanding among these accomplishments ha.sf been the work on the city streets consisting of the1, building of nine reinforced concrete bridges in various! sections of the city, thus making the streets which' have been oil surfaced, safer and more serviceable. I These bridges .have been very much needed and per- j haps is the chief project completed by the city during the past season. The cost was approximately $30,000 to the Logan city taxpajrers. The labor was supplied through the federal agencies while the material was supplied by Logan city. Arxither worth whi3ei undertaking undertak-ing has been the building of the rock gardens and the general improvement im-provement of the ' Central Park. There have been rest rooms erected erect-ed and the playgrounds made more inviting for both young and old. During the summer months a playground supervisor was supplied to assist in organized play. A most inviting picnic grounds has been made In the shade of the trees at the souch west cor- iner of the old City Park where camp stoves have been placed, tables built and a pubirj rest room erected. A flowing well provides water for drinking purposes and stcve wood was placed on the I grounds for picnickers. I Trucks owned by the street department de-partment of the city have been of much service in projects outside out-side the city. They have hauled laborers back and forth to their work. This was a real service while the street and track work through Smithfield was in progress. pro-gress. The water works department has not been neglected. A new supply line from the reservoir east of the college to the distribution distri-bution system, has been completed. complet-ed. This was done with labor supplied sup-plied by the federal government. The material was supplied by Logan city. The labor and materials mater-ials probably cost upwards of $50,- ! (Continued on Page Eight) Logan Made A Desirable Place In Which To Live (Continued from Page One) oooT Construction of the new municipal muni-cipal abattoir or slaughter house, has been started and is well under way. This plant is estimated to cost approximately $18,000 with the FERA supplying upwards of half that amount for the labor. The city will pay for the materials used in its construction. It should be completed early in 1935. When completed all meats will be eiven I proper inspection both before and ! after slaughter. I' Cooperating with the US bureau of public health and the state board of health, all outside back-i back-i houses are to be made sanitary. They will be so constructed to make them free from flies and rodents. The supervision of this work will be under the direction of the US bureau of public health. Upwards of $15,000 is to be spent for labor in this project. Property owners are to supply the materials in each case. The fire department building and equipment have been redecorated rede-corated and repainted through the supervision of Chief C. W. Rapp. In the sewer department, much has been accomplished. Nearly two miles of sewer line has been built. This work has been done (itnrough cooperation of the federal agency and the property owners, i The abutting property owners !have supplied the materials and jthe government has furnished the labor. : I Never has there been more pains-j pains-j taking care shown at the city j cemetery. The streets have been '.leveled and weeds and rocks re- moved. Grass has been kept greener than ever before and much improvement has been made in the growing of shrubbery and flowers.
