Show Studio Set Enchants En-chants Eyes of Visitors California's sights are all very well in their way, but a certain motion picture set at the Fox Film lot proved more Interesting to a group of 30 visitors from across the Atlantic than all the deserts, palm trees or mountains the most ardent native son can show. The visitors in question were a group of expert Bavarian dancers danc-ers brought to Hollywood to perform per-form the unique "Schuhplattler" and other Bavarian folk-dances in the Sox Film picture, "Music In The Air" now playing at the Capitol Theatre. And the object of their attention atten-tion was a huge full-scale reproduction repro-duction of a Bavarian village covering some three city blocks at the studio, where the opening and also the closing sequences of the Erich Pommer production were filmed. Designed by William Darling, ace of the studio art department staff and the man who won the last Academy award for his settings set-tings for "Cavalcade", the village was one of the biggest sets ever constrocted for screen purposes, and was authentic down to the last detail. To the Bavarians, who during their stay never tired of wandering wander-ing about its streets and gazing with home-ick eyes at the picturesque pic-turesque balconies and low shingled shing-led roofs of its buildings, the set was the most amazing thing they had seen in their 6000-mile journey. jour-ney. rO. |
