SADIE NYMAN ' NORTH LOGAN It is a pleas-1 ure at this happy holiday season to report the doings of our Ipoultrymen believe there is money in the business of properly handled. hand-led. It is estimated that about 1200 baby chicks are imported in North Lcgan yearly. One of the safest, largest and most remunerative industry in North Logan is the dairying industry. in-dustry. Better cows are now being be-ing kept by the dairymen, due to the efforts of the Purebred Bull Association and better feeding methods. Most of the farmers have herds of from 5 to 12 cows. Several of the farmers have modern mod-ern bams, equipped with swinging swing-ing steel stanchions and running thrifty little town. I In the beautiful beauti-ful county of Cache, Ca-che, at- the base of the Wasatch range, one mile northeast of Logan Lo-gan and one mile north of the U. S. A. C. is .the prosperous little town of I North Logan, water. North Logan has grown rapidly since overcoming the drawbacks , and struggles incident to pioneer life. Our population is numbered at 377 inhabitants in 74 families. i The comfortable homes, well tilled farms, numerous flocks and herds ! and the thrifty industrous and happy community gives evidence of the wisdom, good judgment , and forsight exercised by the early settlers in selecting a location so favorable for the building up of a healthy community. North Logan is fortunately sit- , uated so that the breezes from Logan and Green canyons cool in summer and warm in winter serve to equalize the extremes in temperature, and to moderate the frigidity of winter as well as the scorching heat of summer. The pure air and the pleasant vistas which make our town desirable as a place of happy residence. The fertility of the soil, the pure water wa-ter and excellent climate make it ideal for contented and prosperous pros-perous industry; for intellectual and artistic advantages, that appeal ap-peal to the highest and noblest attributes of man. With all these supreme attractions we say, "This is the Place." I North Logan has a four room modern school building and employs em-ploys 4 teachers. Sam Gorden is the principal. The schools come under the county system and are J up to standard, with as efficient teachers as money can secure. Approximately 58 students are I registered at South Cache and the U. S. A. C. Our town furnishes furn-ishes 8 teachers for the schools in! other districts. . The health of the people in general is good. In spite of the depressed price of farm products, the people are optomistic. There is no one in our community suffering suf-fering for the necessities of life. We feel that the little country town is the ideal place in which to make a home and rear a family. fam-ily. We extend to all a Merry Christmas Christ-mas and successful New Year and trust that all readers of the Cache Ca-che American will enjoy an abundance abun-dance of great and good things throughout a happy and prosperous prosper-ous New Year. formerly callec Mrs. Nyman Greenville. In looking back over the year, it has been quite a prosperous year generally. One may note changes and improvements in our. small town. Showing that the citizens are a thrifty and progressive people; ever pushing onward and nevei satisfied with anything, but the best. No longer is North Logan a mere collection of farm homes. It is now an incorporated town. A resolution reso-lution creating the township was approved by the Cache county commission on January 5, 1933. The town was incorporated in order to carry ahead plans for installation of a water system from Water canyon, a fork of Green canyon, to be financed through the U. S. public works administration adminis-tration at a cost of about $60,000. A large group of men have been working on the project for some time. In securing this water supply, sup-ply, the improvements most need ed for our town will be one of the best in the state. The water is pure, according to tests made by the state chemist. We have had some losses in our crops and a few accidents. The health officer reports five births and no deaths for the year, which shows we are increasing. Some improvements have been made in the building line. Some homes, several barns, fences and poultry houses have been built. Beets are raised successfully, as well as all kinds of vegetables and (fruits. Some of the most delicious strawberries, dewberries, grapes, and blackcaps to be found in Cache valley are produced in this community. Many housewives in the valley will not can straw berries unless they grow in North Logan. This crop alone adds from $3,000 to $4,000 to the income of our fruit growers. An acre of strawberries will yield from 500 to 1200 twelve cup cases. The selling price varies from 60 cents to $1.25 per case. Some seasons approximately 2 .to 3 thousand cases are raised in North Logan. The poultry and turkey indus try is increasing rapidly. The local lo-cal poultry association is working industriously for a higher egg production and for the supplying of feed at a minimum cost to the poultry raisers. The enthusiastic |
