By M. R. HOVEY Secretary Logan Chamber of Commerce In every community there are some things and events which can be emphasized and "cashed in on" bv COOnerativP effort T.nsrnn and Corho iir.t-.r Iff blessed with a number of assets and institutions in-stitutions which can be made larger and better by more continued and cooperative cooper-ative action. The Utah State Agricultural College Although a state institution, the college col-lege is Logan's greatest asset. It is also a great asset to the county, state and nation. The payroll pay-roll and funds for maintenance and the amount expended ex-pended by the students approximate $500,000.00 annually. an-nually. It is not only nationally known but internationally. internation-ally. It attracts students from many states and some from foreign nations. Each year hundreds of students stu-dents leave the institution and help to advertise the school as well as the city and county. The cultural standards of the city and county are raised considerably through contacts with the college. In addition to the many material demonstrations and experiments conducted in all parts of the state, the college brings to our very dcors the best in music, art, drama and lectures. The annual an-nual Summer School with noted lecturers, including the great summer school band, and other features is outstanding and of much benefit to many. With the setting and surroundings surround-ings it has, Logan is an ideal college town and should be advertised adver-tised as such. More and better housing facilities however, must be provided to meet the rapid in- crease of students at the col- ! lege. The recent Aggie Alumni Home Coming celebration in Logan and at the college is a striking example cf what can be accomplished by all civic organizations cooperating with the college and 'cashing in" on an event. It was the largest and most successful event of its kind, ever promoted and conduct- (Continued on Page Eight) ganizations and the city no doubl j will cooperate with the Legior j and make this one of Logan's bis days. I Logan Temple I The Lcgan Temple Jubilee lasl year was an opportunity. Bj "cashing in" more than 25,00( people saw the pageant staged foi fourteen nights in succession. Tht jubilee brought more than 10.0CK people to Logan during that time The temple with its beautiful grounds and its drawing power ii a great asset to Logan. Annuallj it brings thousands of people here I Everything possible should be done I to make the people feel welcome If there are heavy snows this winter, the city should see that I the snow is removed around the temple grounds to the east so the visitors to the temple can have good parking places. Cache Library In connection with the temple the Cache Library Is becoming a great asset. A genealogical department depart-ment has been established in the library and during their spare time, many visitors to the temple make use of the library. This Khnillri hniU. nr mnre onrf mm u it has Its drawing power along with the temple. With more and better facilities it dan be made more popular and a real educational educa-tional center. Without the ! college this event could not have t taken place in Logan. The col-t col-t lege with its active alumni and 6 the civic organizations created the J opportunity and 'ashed in" on the event. The South Cache high school, i North Cache high school and the , Logan Senior high school are good i feeders for the college and should be suported to the limit. The same applies to the high school at Preston. Friendliness and good! will among all should be encourag-1 ed. I Scenio and Highways I Here are great possibilities. The Cache County Fair sponsored sponsor-ed annually by the Cache County Farm Bureau is a fine opportunity for all the people cf the county to mingle together for the big fall event. With the present facilities facili-ties and all working together, it can be made one of the outstanding outstand-ing fairs of northern Utah and southern Idaho. This year the American Legion will sponsor the 4th of July cele-bration cele-bration in Logan. All local or- |
