Show Grand Junction Growth Is Predicted to Top Records Grand Junction, key city on the Colorado Plateau, added five fewer citizens during the decade 1940-5- 0 than the community numbered when the first official census was taken in 1890, showing a total of 2,030 persons m the town. These figures spiing from a census comparison prepared by Wanen D. Toyne, Grand Junction city manager, in a prospectus compiled for the sale of municipal water bonds. From other charts prepared by Toyne come figures which show a steady growth of the community from 1950, and which indicate the future is indeed an assured one. As in the case of most growing two comparisons communities, furnish the key. One is the amount of building permits issued during a given calendar year, the other is bank deposits and debits. These two figures, in the case of Grand Junction, show a steady increase during the last five years and, in the case of building permits, a huge jump during the year just past. In 1954, a total of $4,676,643 was issued by the city for permission to build, more than two and one-hatimes the figure for 1953, which totaled $2,112,533. The 1954 figure was a record, approached only by 1947s post war building spurt of $4,464,737, and the $3,322,-55- 6 total for 1950, when Climax Uranium Company started its uranium mill. Bank deposits jumped almost $8 million during 1954, from a figure of $24 5 million to one of $32.2 million, while debits took a corresponding upswing, increasing to a total of $291,533,382. That figure represents an increase of almost 4,000 over 1950s official census tally of 14,504. That 18,000 just about jibes with an unofficial estimate, made from Public Service Company figuies of 6,003 average. customers during 1954. On a national basis, there are 3 5 persons per home, and after deducting the number of business house connections from the 6,003 total, a population of about 18,000 would be indicated. Those average customers to have grown m the fifteen year period from 1940 to 1954, almost doubling from 3,705 to 6,003. With an expanding economy indicated by census, financial and public service figures. Grand Junctions continued growth may be safely predicted to reach a possible 25,000 within the span of the next decade. Youth Runs This New Mex. Town This little GRANTS, N.
