The line will serve Vernal city with natural gas as well as serve as a market for nearby oil fields. BUTTE, Mont Nineteen miles northeast of here is one of the first uranium mines brought into production in the United States. But today there are more people going in and out than tiramum cars. In 1951 a California woman suffering from arthritis supposedly visited the mine as a tourist. The next morning, so the story goes, she awoke to find her pain and stiffened muscles were relieved. Her story moved swiftly through arthritic circles, and soon more crippled people were riding the shaft elevator than uranium ore lumps or clods. Owners of the mine installed an electric elevator for stretcher and wheel chair cases. They built a waiting room and hired a nurse to record visitors signs and symptoms before and after the descent into the mine. The owners. Incidentally, do not guarantee results, nor do they make any claims. They merely accept payment of fees from people who believe that, somehow, radiation from the uranium ores in the mine will relieve them of arthritic pain.
