They will compete in the national finals in June. 7 SDJH students take state BOUNTIFUL Seven South Davis Junior High School students won state honors recently in the Utah History Fair competition at Utah State University and will compete in the national finals at the University of Maryland in June. An eighth student, Heather Con-over, Con-over, finished third in the Projects category of the state finals and will be an alternate to the national championships. A five member team comprised of Andrew Scivally, David Portrey, Jennifer Gerber, Jamie Lovell and Robert Christensen placed first and received an "Excellent Rating" in the Media Division. The five award winning students wrote, filmed and produced a slide presentation following the theme: "Does Color Really Matter?" Also competing in the national finals from South Davis Junior High are Melissa Butler, first place in the performance category on the subject of "Human Rights", and Lanese Beecher, runnerup in performance per-formance with a presentation on "Youth Labor Rights." Awarding scholarships will be based on the students' grade-point averages at the time of graduation, according to Robert Parson, director of Utah History Fair. Sponsored by National History Day Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, National Fair competition will be held June 9 for juniors and June 10 and 1 1 for seniors. The awards' program will be held June 13. Special tours and activities ac-tivities are planned for the Washington Wash-ington D.C. area during the finals. |
