Show MJH teacher recognized for promoting foreign languages The American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages conducts workshops for foreign language teachers. Geneva Showalter of MUIcreek Junior High was able to get into this prestigious organization, which is run through Weber State University. Univer-sity. Foreign language teachers learn how to teach reading, speaking, speak-ing, listening and how to test students in order to make them the most efficient in whichever language lan-guage they are studying. The Department of Foreign Language Lan-guage and Literature at Weber gave Showalter special recognition for her "commitment and excellence in promoting the study of foreign languages, lan-guages, and to recognize her past service in local and regional conferences con-ferences and language alliances, and her exemplary language program pro-gram at Millcreek. ' Showalter is president-elect of the Utah Foreign Language Association, and past president of American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portugese. She went to Spain for two months on a Rockefeller Foundation Founda-tion Grant to set up an alliance with other teachers to exchange ideas about teen-agers from opposite sides of the world. The project included studying at the Madrid Institute to interview and record teen's reactions to different situations which included personal and worldwide events. Showalter uses these findings to share with her classes to teach them how fellow teens live and think. Showalter is one of the many outstanding teachers at MUIcreek who strive to improve themselves in order to inspire students to achieve the highest possible standards, said an MJH spokesperson. |
