Show 1 May 2 groundbreaking set for Bountiful's LDS Temple i ' t o x i ! i i - f t I II I f I I ' ' ' III 1 I I 1 I.-- flj lit " V m ' , ; i T ' 'I j " ------ f 1 A groundbreaking service for the Bountiful, Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been scheduled for Saturday, May 2, the First Presidency of the Church has announced. The groundbreaking will be at 10 a.m. on the temple site, at Bountiful Boulevard and Temple View Drive. Final approvals have been granted by city officials, construction bids will soon be let and a contract is expected ex-pected to be awarded by May 2, the Church officials said. Plans to build the temple were announced nearly four years ago. The temple will be the eighth in Utah. The Church currently has 42 operating temples worldwide and two others, in England and Switzerland, are currently cur-rently being renovated. A 45th temple is under construction in San Diego, Calif., and plans have been announced for temples in Orlando, Fla., St, Louis, Mo. Guayaquil, Ecuador and Bogota, Colombia. The Bountiful Temple will serve the members of the Church residing in the 28 stakes between the Davis County communities of North Salt Lake on the south and Kaysville and Fruit Heights on the north. The temple tem-ple site is situated in the Bountiful foothills and offers a panoramic view of the valley and the Great Salt Lake to the west. The exterior of the temple will be white stone and the tower will rise to 176 feet, including a gold-leafed statue of the Angel Moroni. There will be approximately 100,000 square feet of floor space in the building, which will include four ordinance or-dinance rooms, a Celestial Room and a baptistry, as well as offices, a cafeteria and laundry facilities. A two-level parking structure will accommodate some 550 cars. The 10.2 acre temple site will be enclosed with an attractive eight-foot wrought-iron fence. A fountain will complement the lawn, trees, shrubs and walks of the temple grounds. o LDS Church officials have set May 2 for the groundbreaking ceremonies of the new Bountiful Temple. The 10 a.m. event will be held at Bountiful Boulevard and Temple View Drive in the foothills of Bountiful. |
