Show Sibling transfer option stopped by Davis District By JENNIFER PETERSON Staff Writer i Students in the Davis County School District who hope to transfer to attend the same schools their older siblings did are out of luck. The school board decided that no student will be allowed to transfer schools unless he or she needs a special program unavailable at his or her local school, the transfer would improve the student's attendance, achievement and behavior or for the safety and security of that student. The controversial Transfer Policy comes after a recent re-cent change in several school area boundaries. Siblings who would have attended school together prior to those boundary changes will not be allowed to transfer to the older sibling's school simply for convenience. Board members blame the decision on overcrowding in the schools throughout the district. Currently, Woods Cross is the only school in the Davis County School District which is not overcrowded. In other board business, members discussed the issue of prayer in public meetings. Board members alternate responsibility for the initiation of the meeting. The initiation in-itiation is an open exercise during which time the leading individual is encouraged to present "an issue, a concern or a sentiment. 1 ' |
