Show Recreation plan surveyed By TOM HARALDSEN Clipper Correspondent CENTERVILLE The Centerville Parks and Recreation Committee recently conducted a survey of citizens regarding plans for the city's recreation program. Close to 300 residents responded to the survey, with a whopping 89 percent of respondents saying they'd favor a bond election for the purpose of raising funds to expedite construction of the new community recreation complex planned on city property east of the Frontage Road-Other Road-Other results of interest from the survey include a 76 percent awareness rate that Centerville City had acquired 23 acres of land for development of a complex at about 400 North and the Frontage Road; and a 51 percent unawareness rate of plans to move the current ball diamonds to that site, along with development of a skateboard pad, tennis courts and soccer fields. When asked which activities people most use parks for, the answer an-swer most often listed was sports, followed by playing on equipment, picnicking and relaxationwalks. About 58 percent of respondents said they felt the city was spending the right amount of money to maintain main-tain and improve the existing parks. The survey respondents were nearly two-thirds male, with an average age of 41.7 years and an average family size of five. More than 65 percent had lived in Centerville Center-ville over five years. Recreation Committee members may now expand the survey to find even more precise feelings of citizens regarding future plans in the city. |
