Show Federated Music Club has interesting program A delightful program entertained enter-tained members of the Springville Spring-ville Federated Music Club, Friday evening, when they were entertained at the home of Mrs. Janet J. Packard. President Pres-ident Betty Sumsion was in charge of the meeting, asking Anna Marie Palfreyman to read the club collect. Mrs. Alma Whiting of Mapleton Ma-pleton presented an interesting and entertaining program on Chanty music. She explained how sailors crossing the sea and working on their vessels, chanted certain tunes to a definite def-inite beat during the period from 1812 to 1860. This particular partic-ular music played a unique role in American life. During the w e s tward movement, music took on another tempo that of movement, she noted and this type of music was sung throughout the country. Assisting Mrs. Whiting with the program of the various types of music, were her son, David, who gave solos with self accompaniment on the guitar and violin accompaniment accompani-ment by Mrs. Whiting; Dean Oldroyd, solos, accompanied by Mrs. Sumsion; Mrs. Packard and Mrs. Sumsion, a duet, with accompaniment by Mrs. Sumsion; Sum-sion; Reva Lynn, vocal selection, selec-tion, accompanied by Mary Bird; Jean Biesinger, solo, accompanied ac-companied by Anna Marie Palfreyman; Pal-freyman; Carol Clark, vocal solo, accompanied by Mrs. Palfreyman; Pal-freyman; Mary Schreiver, vocal s e 1 e c tion, accompanied by Marge Bird on the piano and Eileen Bird on the violin; Evelyn Eve-lyn Boyer, a vocal number, with self accompaniment on the piano. The program concluded with group singing of songs typical of the periods discussed. Refreshments were served by the hostesses to approximately twenty club members. |
