Show Mapleton man get service award Ten and 20 year service awards were recently presented pre-sented to Timpanogos Soil Conservation District Supervisors Super-visors at the annual State Convention in Salt Lake City. Ten year awards were presented to Niel Whiting, Mapleton farmer and livestock live-stock producer, and Her-schcl Her-schcl CMnger, Lake view dairy farmer. A 20 year award was presented pre-sented to John W. Gillman, Orem fruit grower, who has served on the board continuously contin-uously since the district was organized. The Timpanogos SCD was organized in 1947 by vote of the local people to assist farmers and ranchers with soil and water conservation problems. The district is supervised su-pervised by the Sate Soil Conservation C o m m i tt e e. Two board members are appointed ap-pointed and three are elected elec-ted by the land owners and occupiers living within the district. The original board members were John W. Gill-man, Gill-man, Orem; Clyde Holda-way, Holda-way, Vineyard; G. Marion Hinckley, Provo; Karl Alle-man, Alle-man, Spanish Fork; and Frank Carnesecca, Mapleton. Maple-ton. Soil conservation districts are unique in that supervisors supervis-ors serve without compensation compensa-tion and no state funds are appropriated for their operation. oper-ation. Technical assistance is received from the Soil Conservation Con-servation Service, information informa-tion and educational assistance assis-tance from the Utah State University Extension Service, Serv-ice, and by cooperating with other federal, state and local lo-cal organizations the district carries an active program forward. Present board members serving are: Niel Whiting, chairman, Mapleton ; Her-schel Her-schel Clinger, vice chairman, Lakeview; LeRoy Holdaway, secretary-treasurer, Vineyard; Vine-yard; John Gillman, member, mem-ber, Orem; and LaMar Crandall, member, Springville.
