Show W. W. Clyde honored for service record at recent Provo meeting The Sertoma Club of Provo at its annual, "Service to Mankind," Man-kind," meeting presented the coveted award to W. W. Clyde of this city, in recognition of his outstanding record of service. ser-vice. Introduced as one of the West's biggest contractors, a builder of roads and bridges and a builder of men through outstanding service to youth in the Boy Scout movement, Mr. Clyde is only the fourth to receive re-ceive the award. He graduated from the University Uni-versity of Utah as an engineer. He has numerous other business busi-ness interests, including banking bank-ing having just been made chairman of the board of the Farmers and Merchants Branch of Walker Bank and Trust Co. Another signal accomplishment accomplish-ment is membership on the board of regents for the University Uni-versity of Utah. To the Boy Scout movement he has given many years of volunteer effort, and thousands thous-ands of dollars in cash contributions. contri-butions. He was president of the Utah National Parks Council Coun-cil 12 years and during his term of office, membership in the council doubled. He was president and a prime mover in the contruction of the Boy Scout headquarters at Provo's North Park, and he and his wife gave outright a $43,000 lodge to scouts at Maple Dell in Payson Canyon. Active in other types of civic work, he is a former mayor of Springville, and city council, former president of the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, and a past president of the Kiwanis Club. A prominent worker in the LDS Church, he has been a bishop and member of the high council. Mr. Clyde and members of the Clyde family established a foundation which financed an additional wing to the Art Gallery Gal-lery at a cost of $85,000. More recently the Foundation Founda-tion contributed $5000 to Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University and the same amount to Utah State University as a scholarship fund, to aid students with their education. W. W. Clyde is president of the foundation. |
