Show Cluh announces art contest deadline The Aureole Federeated Women's Wo-men's Club of Springville, in ' an effort to stimulate art tal- ent in students of the high school, is offering a cash art award of $50 to a deserving art student at the senior high school, it was announced this week by Mrs. Mark W. (Lucille) (Luc-ille) Johnson, art chairman. Mary Schwartz is club president. presi-dent. The award, which has been increased this year, will be presented at the annual art ' assembly. Rules governing the selection of a deserving student, state 1958 to February 1960, individuals individ-uals and groups from Aureole Club membership have been actively ac-tively concerned with the following fol-lowing art projects: A painting "Snow Patches" by Oliver Parson, won by the Aureole Club as a "Penny Art Fund" award in 1949, was renovated re-novated in 1959. In 1959 it was fitted with a plaque and loaned to the Junior High School to be hung there for the enjoyment of the students. Aureole Club has sponsored the "Hallmark Card Contest" of the National Federated Women's Wo-men's Clubs held In Springville in 1959 and 1965. The contest con-test is conducted yearly for high school seniors. All club programs have been presented on various phases of art with the theme that everyone ev-eryone should practice the art in which he excels. One private art exhibit of paintings by club members has been held; Six club members have affiliations' with the Ha-fen-Dallin art club and have i contributed services in many art projects such as receiving and unpacking pictures for the annual national art exhibit in the Springville Art Gallery and tending the gallery; a campaign cam-paign was conducted to gather objects for the use of the still life painting classes at the high school; annually the club has actively participated in the Federated Women's Club Art Tea in the gallery; exhibition and discussion of some art object has been Introduced in each club meeting; one club member painted a picture of Springville's historical pioneer tree and donated it to the Westside Elementary School; three members have taken art classes and have exhibited a total of 48 pictures and sold 21; three members have been instrumental in organizing adult ad-ult education classes on art, taught by a local artist; one member of the club has been local chairman of the amateur art exhibit for two years; two members have officiated as custodians of the county art exhibit at Memorial Park in Provo, Utah; in 1960 the Aureole Aur-eole Club won the "Penny Art Award" for the second time in Utah Federated Women's Clubs. The picture was "Rainbow Bridge" by Lynn Faucett. that the winner must be a student of senior high school in the 10th, 11th or 12th grade, and shall be judged outstanding outstand-ing in the field of art including includ-ing painting and sculpturing. The student selected shall maintain passing grades in his school subjects. No student shall receive the award more than once during the three-year three-year period of eligibility, it is stated. The award shall be used to further the student's studies in art. The sponsoring club states that competing students are tc present three pieces of their best art work for judging and judging will take place the second sec-ond week in April at the art museum. Judges of the contest shall consist of the art teacher at both the senior and junior high schools, the president o fthe Aureole ' Club and one recognized recog-nized artist of the vicinity. The decision of the judges shall be final, it is announced. Soon after the organization of the Aureole (Circle of Light) Federated Club, the fifteen charter members decided decid-ed to direct one ray of their light on art; and chose the encouragement en-couragement of art as one permanent per-manent club project. In April 1945, Lois Child, the club's first president, presented a ten dollar award to Jimmy Lee Bullen, an autstanding art student stu-dent of Springville High School. Although the yearly Aureole Club program covers many subjects, sub-jects, keen interest in art has developed among the club membership as a result of this project; and many valuable art programs have been introduced intro-duced into the yearly calendar of activities.
