Show Mapleton Hews Mrs. Blake Everett Phone 489-4837 The Mapleton Lion's Club held their February social at the Ettie Lee Home for boys, located in the eastern part of Mapleton near the mouth of Maple Canyon. A fine dinner was served in the beautiful recreation re-creation room of the home, after af-ter which Miss Ettie Lee, the founder of the home, spoke to the club. Miss Lee has ten boys homes in California and two in Utah, with three more under construction in Utah. The home in Mapleton will be known as the David Lee home, being named after Miss Lee's father. She said of all the homes she has built, she considers the one here to be her finest home, and she plans to spend a great deal of time here this summer. Coming from California with Miss Lee was Neal Howard, general manager of all the homes, who spoke briefly to the group, and a social worker whose name we were unable to get. Remarks were also made by Elsa V. Harris, child welfare supervisor of Utah County. Professor and Mrs. Al-onzo Al-onzo J. Morley of the B.Y.U. who are interested in these homes were guests for the evening. eve-ning. There are nine boys at the home and they were introduced to the people during the evening. even-ing. The boys are all from 14 to 16 years of age. They attend at-tend schools here and go to church at the Mapleton Ward. Dedication services are being planned for April 3. Spencer Kimball of the Twelve Apostles Apos-tles will be there to offer the dedicatory prayer at 3 p.m. De- tails of this will be announced iter. The rest of the Lion's Club program consisted of the welcoming wel-coming of two new members and the wives, Floyd and Vel-ma Vel-ma Weight and George and Donna Sorenson. The Weights were inducted by President Glen Holley and the Sorensons were inducted by Jim Carnes-ecca. Carnes-ecca. Some fine musical numbers num-bers were given by Mrs. Lorraine Lor-raine Barker and Mrs. Genine Carter of Payson. They sang and played guitars. The annual broom sale will be held soon with Cyril Thompson Thomp-son in charge and Lynn Bjarn-son Bjarn-son assisting. The proceeds will be used this year for new city office building funds. The February meeting was under the direction of Keith Roylance, Harold Barker and Glen Holley. The social for March will be held at the Ideal j Cafe in Spanish Fork under the direction of Howard Lar-sen Lar-sen and Porter Leavitt. Films will be shown by Sylvester Allan of his travels down the Colorado River. The Mapleton Firemen's Auxiliary Aux-iliary meeting for this month was held last week at the home of Elaine Mason. President Presi-dent Lois Graves presided at the meeting and the prayer was given by Chaplain Cleola Evans. February minutes were read by the secretary and approved ap-proved by the group. A demonstration on home nursing was given by Mabel Paulson. At the close of the evening, refreshments were served by hosteses, Elaine Mason, Ma-son, Eunice Poulson and Len-ore Len-ore Bills. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Miner and , friends from Salt Lake City, . Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Smart, , spent several days vacationing in Las Vegas last week. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Larsen were in Vernal over the weekend week-end visiting with their daughter daugh-ter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hopla and their family. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Carnesecca are in New York City visiting with their daughter, Marion, and her family. The Needlecraft Club met recently at the home of Mrs. Fern Whitney in Springville. The time was spent in quilting : and hostesses were Martha ' Whiting, Lora Bird, and Arlina ! Holley. Marva Whiting's mother moth-er from Lemington, Utah, was a special guest.. |
