Show Talk on Iceland given at club The March 4 meeting of the Ladies Literary Club was held at the home of Mrs.. W. H. Brown with Mrs. W. L. Schrein-er, Schrein-er, program chairman, in charge. Mrs. Harold Christensen read the club collect after which the lesson for the evening, "From the Scandinavians" was presented pre-sented by Mrs. John Y. Bearn-son. Bearn-son. She centered her remarks on Iceland, telling of the types of literature and reading bits of poetry and sagas. Having visited Iceland with Mr. Bearn-son Bearn-son some five years ago, the speaker was able to give firsthand, first-hand, much valuable information informa-tion on the country and the people. She reported there are no jails or penal institutions in Iceland and in a city the size of Ogden there are some 46 book stores. There is no juvenile juven-ile delinquency in the country. Children are able to work at age 12 years. A report on the Legislative Council meeting at Provo was given by Mrs. Berton Groes-beck. Groes-beck. Preceding the meeting lunch was served by the hostess assisted as-sisted by her daughter, Mrs. Dale Allred, to sixteen club members. Next meeting is to be on Thursday, March 18, at the home of Mrs. Oliver H. Dalton. |
