Show Roy K. Bird, winner of first place and a $100 bond in Utah County Elk's scholarship scholar-ship contest, boys division. Student takes first in Elk's contest Roy K. Bird, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy H. Bird, 131 West First South, has been named as one of six young people in Utah County to win the "Most-Valuable "Most-Valuable Student," scholarship award, offered by the Elk's club. Roy was top winner in the boy's division, while a girl from the Spanish Fork High School also took first place honors. They will receive a $100 bond toward furthering their schooling, from the Provo Lodge No. 849. Second and third place winners win-ners who receive $75 and $50 bonds respectively, were from Provo, Spanish Fork and Orem. The first place winners will enter a state contest to be judged March 28. The first three winners in the state abong boys and girls will each be given $700 .The top boy and girl in the state will enter national, na-tional, in which a total of $110,000 is given in scholarships. scholar-ships. Scholarship, outside activity, personality, leadership, perser-verance, perser-verance, resourcefulness, general gener-al worthiness and financial need is taken into consideration considera-tion in judging. The awards will be presented during Elks Week, beginning May 2. |
