Show BHS zaps Wayne with zone'D' BICKNELL - The Beaver Beavers traveled to distant lands Saturday and showed Wayne High School how to play an effective zone defense and win in the process as they downed the Badgers 56-46. Beaver was never in any real danger throughout the contest and led comfortably throughout most of the game. Scott Stucki did the heavy damage for the Beavers as he banged in 14 points while teammate Kenny Stoker added 12. ; "Other than Stucki's 14 points, it was a team effort," explained Beaver coach Calvin Albrecht. "We don't handle pressure real well yet, but Wayne was a road game and we won it." Albrecht mentioned the fact that the Beavers have enjoyed very few practice sessions because of the extended football season and he felt his kids will come around. Albrecht likes what he sees in this year's 2-1 team. "There are no real stars on this team," said Albrecht. "They play well together." One problem the coach sees with this year's squad is a lack of depth. Hopefully this will change when everyone is healthy. Donnie Roberts and Robby Eyre are both recuperating frpm football injuries and will provide added strength to the squad. Albrecht sees Gunnison, Valley, Panguitch, Kanab and Milford as the teams to beat in Region 12 this season. Not many people have picked Beaver to walk away with a State 1-A 1-A basketball crown this season, but then not many favored the Beavers in football either so that doesn't mean much. |
