Show Tigers split games with one win, one loss MILFORD - The Milford High Tigers looked like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde last week as their basketball team lost one to Valley High School by the lopsided score of 54-36 and then turned around Saturday and clubbed Bryce Valley 60-47. 60-47. The first game against Valley was actually closer than the score indicated. The Tigers played well for three quarters but folded in the fourth. "We played pretty good for three quarters," explained Tiger coach Kevin Barnes. "We lost our cool in the fourth. We got upset and couldn't do much." Barnes continued: "We didn't shoot very well that night. They kind of took it to us." Valley led by six at the end of the first quarter, and the teams played even through the third, with Valley leading by seven at the end of three. The Valley squad pulled away for the 54-36 win during the fourth period. John Dotson was the leading scorer for the Tigers, picking up eight points. He was followed by Chad Hardy and Ephie Tolman with six each. Darryl Moody grabbed 11 rebounds for Milford to lead the Tigers in that department. Saturday proved to be a different story for the Tigers. Traveling to Bryce Valley, MHS thumped the Mustangs 60-47 with Ephie Tolman netting 21 points. "That was a little more productive than against - Valley," said Barnes. "Overall it was just a lot better game." The Mustangs kept it close through the first half, trailing 24-19 at intermission. In the third quarter the Tigers started to run and ran away with the game. "We blew it out real quick," said Barnes. "We came out after the half and got a ten-point lead." From that point on it was all downhill for Milford. Chad hardy contributed with 14 points and Blair Cooney added 11. Milford helped their own cause by hitting 22-29 from the foul line for a good 76 percent average. They shot a mediocre 35 percent from the field and committed 18 turnovers. Bolton and Moody had seven rebounds and Cooney added five. "We've had our peaks and valleys so far," explained Barnes. The coach said he hopes to see his team play more consistently as they gain game experience and enter region play. |
