Show Deserving Christmas thanks given to festive season opener It is good to see that Christmas is not only a time of good cheer, happiness and caring but is also a time when different elements in every community can work together to bring joy and happiness to many children both big and small. Each town celebrates the beginning of the Christmas season in many different ways, but usually they all have one thing in common the arrival of that jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus. But to bring him to town in style requires the efforts of many people and organizations. In Cedar City much credit should go to Joyce Messer who was chairperson of the parade committee, Wayne Clark of the merchant's committee, the PTA from all of the schools in Cedar City and Enoch, Southern Utah State College, the . Cedar City Chamber of Commerce, the city and the merchants. This was an excellent example of all elements of the community working together to provide some joy to the area. Other communities in the area will be having different activities throughout the season. Parowan next week will help usher in the Christmas season with its First annual winter carnival which will take place Dec. 18 and 19. It will include a dance on Friday evening. And on Saturday snowmobile drags, movies for the children and a visit by Santa with goodies for all the children. Later there will be booths filled with home-made items, antiques, cookies, cakes, candy and many other things in the Parowan High School. Parowan's Chamber of Commerce needs to be recognized for the planning and work they are doing on their first winter carnival. We at the Record feel that this type of effort by those in our communities needs to be recognized. It takes a great deal of personal time to put these kind of community activities together. So at this Christmas season when our hearts are filled with joy and we are enjoying some of these activities let's smile and remember to thank those who have tried to make our Christmas a little more festive and satisfying. |
