Show Looking for consistency PHS hoopter nip BV in thriller By MIKE CANNON Sports Writer PAROWAN The rip-snortin' Rams , are ramblin' toward Region 12 play and continued their success Friday with a tight 55-53 win over Bryce Valley here on their home court. The Rams came from behind in the fourth quarter, overcoming a 40-35 deficit, to take the lead in the contest arid hang on for the win. 'A sick Doug JRogerson, playing only about 12 minutes, hit a bucket on a drive with seconds left to give PHS the margin of victory. Rogerson was fouled , on the play but missed the free throw; , however, the Mustangs couldn't convert on a last second shot. Despite the pleasing win, rookie coach Mark Heppler wasn't overly thrilled with his team's performance. "We didn't play that well," .said Heppler. e didn't shoot well, and we turned the ball over way too many times." Heppler continued: "We didn't get the good shots. We had spurts where we looked pretty good, but we'll have to.-play to.-play better than that to win our region games. I think we'll come around." Despite the lack of consistency, the Rams turned in some fine clutch performances. Heppler praised Brent and Brad Hainey for their play coming off the bench. Brent hit four foul shots in a row in the close fourthperiod to keep the Rams close.'.; Guard Kelly Orton played well, hitting for 16 points and nabbing four Bteals. Six of Orton's points fame in the fourth quarter on crucial free throws. - Wade Adams had six offensive . rebounds and eight points. Rogerson netted 10 points, had five blocked shots, grabbed three boards and had one steal all in 12 minutes of play. The Ram bench contributed 17 points, something that pleased Heppler very much, The Ram coach likes to play ten or more players if possible. "I don't think anybody else has that much depth," explained Heppler. Parowan as a team had 15 steals against the Mustangs as their press and swarming defense - payed healthy dividends. The Rams did, however, turn the ball over 19 times. Bryce Valley led at the end of a low scoring first period by a score of 9-8. The Rams battled back to take a 20-19 lead with them into the locker room at the half. The Mustangs pulled out to a 40-35 lead at the end of three but PHS pressed and hit key shots while the boys from over the mountain turned cold, resulting in the 55-53 final.
