Show New students' class planned CEDAR CITY -Personal Assessment, a class specifically designed for new students, begins Jan. 5 at Southern Utah State College. Offered by the SUSC Counseling Center, the winter quarter class will focus on the needs of the older student, displaced' homemakers and others who are beginning their college careers later in life. Many of them will have reared their families and are concerned with planning a new and important part of their lives. "Enrollment in the class is open to all interested individuals, not only full-time SUSC dyudents,"said Dr. gary Dunford, director of counseling and placement at SUSC. Personal Assessment will be taught on Tuesday afternoons from 3 to 5 p.m. in the SUSC Career class deal with the assessment of vocational interests and. aptitudes, home management, training and educational opportunities, financial preparation for school and assertiveness skills and effective communication," Dun-ford Dun-ford said. "In addition, class members become familiar with resume preparation, job interview skills, effective job searches and with the resources available through public agencies." "Individuals taking the class have had good experiences," Dunford said. "They have formed close relationships, found that others have similar problems, developed the ability to express themselves and have overcome fears enabling them to feel a part of the college." "Furthermore, students have become stronger individuals and find that there are people who are really dedicated to helping them solve their problems," he added. The Counseling Center also provides free workshops each nuarter Center. It is available for two hours credit.
