Dix hustled around the 2.8-mile course in a time of 14:02 to easily outdistance out-distance the second-place finisher by 38 seconds. The slender distance ace clocked his personal best time this season to win the meet, which included runners from Cedar High, Dixie, Carbon, Payson, Spanish Fork and Springville. As a team,. Cedar finished a disappointing fifth, and only Dix qualified for Utah State 3-A 3-A competition on- the boy's team. For the CHS girls; Jeanne Stratton placed fourth individually and qualified for State competition this week. Dix had previously been beaten by one or two of the other runners at the region meet but didn't let that bother him. "There was a kid from Payson who had beaten me in a duel meet," said Dix. "I concentrated on getting ahead of him." Dix is an excellent runner, though he's not noted for having a strong finishing kick. "My coach told me to take the lead at the first, then if the others sprinted at the end they would have to catch me," explained Dix. "That's what I did. I was quite tired when I finished." The young runner combines speed workouts with longer runs during his typical week of training and the combination com-bination has payed-off.
