Show Annual cavalcade of bands scheduled CEDAR CITY -Marching bands from Cottonwood, Spanish Fork, Delta, Cedar City, Pay son and Springville high schools will meet at Southern Utah State College Saturday for the college's annual Cavalcade of Bands. The marching band contest will begin at 2 p.m. at Thunderbird Stadium. Tickets will be available at $2 for adultsu $1 for college students, 50 cents for children or $5 per family. Group rates are also available by contacting Laura Graf, program publicity chairwoman, at either 586-7893 or 586-7890. "A corps style marching mar-ching contest is judged by three marching band specialists," said Joseph Lamoureux, SUSC band director. "Two of them, the audio and visual judges, will be stationed in the press box high above the field. The marching and maneuvering judge will be on the field with the performers." Judges for the Saturday Satur-day afternoon contest are Larry Wright, band director at Cedar Middle School; Pete Cameron, band director at Chaparrel High School, Las Vegas; and Ferron Holt, band director at Dixie Junior High. The contest is being hosted by Thunder,' the SUSC marching band. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place bands, Graf, a senior music major from Santa Clara, said. Participation trophies will also be awarded. "We invite all music lovers out to hear some of the finest bands in the state," Lamoureux said. "In corps style marching, many auxiliary units are included such as tall and short flags and rifle corps, and the drum line is tuned, developed for tonal sound, making performances a pleasure to behold." Payson High School has received several first-place first-place trophies in recent contests he said, including in-cluding the Nebo Cup and trophies at Brigham Young University and University of Utah marching contests. Delta won second place at the BYU contest and second place in competition for the Davis Cup. |
