Show Enterprise voters to choose mayor, three councilmen James Simkin arranged. Also the garbage disposal system in Enterprise is inadequate. I feel that the city could operate a garbage disposal system more efficiently with a land fill located in our area. I intend to work for such a system. Water and power boards I feel that the work which has been done on the water and power systems in the past has been very satisfactory. We do need a power board to make suggestions and recommendations but the final decision should rest with the city council. Mill levy v The mill levy in Enterprise is high because of our low tax base. We need to do all we can to encourage light industry in-dustry to locate in our area. Also encourage en-courage retail markets to expand by patronizing them and keeping the tax dollars in our city. Tho wica lico nf mnnov nvpilnhlo hv Enterprise voters this year will choose a mayor, a two-year councilman and two four-year councilmen. All are non-partisan races. Running for mayor are Clinton Bowler and Lyle Jones, acting mayor. Seeking the two-year position in the council are Lee Bracken and James Simkin. Going after the four-year seats are Leo Barlocker, Reginald Terry, Wesley C. Hunt and Mildred Peterson. Questions asked the candidates were as follows: How do you stand on the proposed master plan for Enterprise? How do you feel about the Enterprise City sewer situation? How do you feel about having a City water board and power board, and what type of authority should such have? and How do you feel about Enterprise City, having the highest mill levy in Washington County, and what could be done to change it, if anything? Master plan I think we have a good master plan. I was on the planning commission. We had a lot of public input and used these ideas to finalize the master plan. We spent a lot of time trying to preserve our rural life style in the formulation of the master plan. As far as the zoning part of the master plan, I feel that we should have enough regulation to protect ourselves :ity officials would give us more for our ax dollar. ana our property ana at tne same ume we should be careful not to go over- c board and make zoning regulations that 1 would be burdensome and stifling. Sewer A municipal sewer system would benefit a segment of the community, however, a greater segment of the community would find such a system an unnecessary burden. With interest rates the way they are I don't think a municipal sewer system is feasible or advisable at the present time. Water and power boards Due to the small size of Enterprise I feel that a separate water or power board are unnecessary. There would be much to be duplicated by such boards. It's been tried in the past and was discarded. Mill levy It is irritating that we have the highest mill levy in the county But, we don't have the tax base that the rest of the county has. Most of Washington County relies on revenues generated by tourism. Being in an outlying area we don't share in this. We must rely on property values and our limited retail business. The only thing we can do to change things is to support our local retail businesses and not do so much shopping elsewhere. Our local businessmen are always willing to special order things. Reginald Terry Master plan The master plan is needed for Enterprise, En-terprise, to help us to grow in a planned way instead of a hap hazed way. This plan will help us do this. Sewer We need a new sewer system in Enterprise. It will be expensive but will help in the long run. Most of the citizens have used up available space with septic tanks. A new sewer system will help out in his matter. Water and power boards Right now a water board and power board is not needed, but if future growth occurs we will need both. We are prepared to have both if needed. Mill levy The high mill levy is mainly caused because we don't have a base here in town. A lot of the people have to purchase pur-chase goods outside town, Cedar or St. George, such as appliances, furniture, some groceries. This takes the tax revenues out of town. In order to meet our needs the mill levy has to be a little higher. We are going to tighten our belts and see if we can cut this next year. Lee Bracken No response Leo Barlocker No response Wftslev C Hunt Mildred Peterson o Ii jwi ' " Master plan I believe that through the meetings that were held for the public and the input that was received, a workable master plan was devised. A City needs to learn from the past, live in the now, today, and build for the future. Sewer It is regrettable that the state won't bond us or let us be bonded so as to afford a sewer. It would be a 'giant step' forward to have a sewer system. It's sad when a small town is forced to retrogress instead in-stead of progress. Water and power boards The city council handles the water and power as well as any group could and should. We aren't so big as to need several groups delving into several areas and no one really knowing what the other is doing. Mill levy I have complete faith in the policies of former Mayor Bowler. He instigated the mill levy and did so with much thought. This needs to be looked at very, very carefully before jumping to erroneous conclusions. Master plan I feel the proposed Master Plan and Zoning Ordinance is unacceptable in its present form. However I feel that some kind of plan is needed to help prepare for the future growth and development of Enterprise. As chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission I am working on such a plan that will more fully fill the needs of the city. It will be less restrictive, and will protect the rights of the property owner. This plan should be ready to present to the public in early 1982. Sewer Enterprise has some serious sewage problems. The dumping of raw sewage into open pits at the Potato Processing Plant must be discontinued. I also support the proposal for a city sewer system as soon as financing can be |
