Dunford assumed his present postition at SUSC two years ago. Since that time he has coordinated counseling activities on campus and has expanded ex-panded community participation in SUSC counseling services. He received a B.S. in psychology and counseling coun-seling and guidance. His doctorate is from New Mexico State University in psychology and guidance and counseling. Prior to his appointment ap-pointment at SUSC he w , was director of counseling coun-seling at Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tenn. He served as president of the Tennessee College Personnel Assocation and is a member of APGA and ACPA. Dunford was school psychologist at the Pupil Personnel Center in Fallon, Nev., and a research specialist for the Eastern Regional education Center in Ely, Nev. He has also been a teacher, principal and coordinator in the seminary and institute programs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints. CEDAR CITY -Southern Utah State College counselor Gary Dunford has been selected by the Utah School Counselors-Vocational Counselors-Vocational Guidance as the counselor of the year. The honor was presented to Dunford Oct. 9 at a meeting for high school and college level counselors during the Utah Educators Association convention which took place in Salt Lake City. Men and women around the State were nominated for this prestigious award based mostly on their counseling coun-seling abilities; however, other criteria were involved in-volved in the selection process. Dunford commented on why he was selected by saying it probably "just by having innovative, effective programs." "We're working a lot with computer technology for career information. Also, we're developing an advisement ad-visement project where students' majors and minors would be stored on the computer. At the end of each quarter students could compare how they are progressing at college," he added. Dunford's work at the SUSC Counseling and Testing Center includes putting on workshops for students. The next workshop scheduled is one on eliminating self-defeating self-defeating behavior on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Counseling Center at 1:30 p.m. beginning on Oct. 27.
