Show Cross country birds run at air academy Southern Utah State' young cross country team will get plenty of what it's looking for this week at the U.S. Air Force Academy Invitational at Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Thunderbird squad will be one of a host of teams running in the Saturday meet. "The competition will be extremely ex-tremely keen," Boyd Adams, Southern Utah's coach, explains. "Among the teams we will be running against will be Wyoming, Colorado State, Idaho State and Adams State, the defending NAIA national champion. There could be other schools from our conference there too." Southern Utah is looking for experience for its young squad, and Adams figures that the Air Force Invitational will give his T-Birds a good look at plenty of good runners. "It should be good for the kids, and it should help us prepare for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference meet, which is the one which really counts," Adams explains. Last week SUSC finished fifth in the six-team six-team Weber State Cross Country Invitational. Boise State of the Big Sky Conference won that competition. Chad Jones was the top T-Bird finisher. He came in 16th in a time of 27: 19.5 for the five-mile distance. The week before Jones finished second among SUSC runners behind Gordon Hyde in a three-way three-way meet at Flagstaff, Arizona. Hyde's time was 27:39.7 for 8,000 meters. |
