Show Carcass contest winners named Results of the 1981 Southwest Livestock Show carcass contest were announced Sept. 24 with a Cedar City youth, Lance Smith, capturing first place honors. Smith scored a total of 92.67 points out of a possible 100 on his carcass car-cass to win the contest and receive a cash prize of a $100 and a trophy donated by the Cedar Packing Co. Second place and $50 went to Brad Esplin from St. George. Cleave and Michael Weaver co-owned co-owned the third place carcass receiving $25. Fourth place was awarded to Wade Weldert, along with $15 and Brian Wood obtained $10 for fifth place with his carcass. Area Livestock specialist Grant Esplin, explained how the judging took place: "Fifty points were given to the carcass based on mathematical equation of the quality grade, the yield grade and the internal in-ternal fat content. Thirty-five points were based on the carcass gain, and the remaining fifteen points were based on the live placing by the judges during the show." |
