Show Deadline extended Response to the nine telecourses being offered for credit at Southern Utah State College has been so good that the registration deadline has been extended until Oct! 11- Telecourses, college classes taught over television, are being aired over KUED-Channel KUED-Channel 7, an affiliate of the Public Broadcasting System. Students enrolled in the program will be able to earn college credit without ever having to leave home. Usually repeated several times a week, telecourses combine the televised lessons with related reading assignments and examinations, all coordinated by faculty sponsors. Nine faculty members, with areas of specialization as varied as the courses being offered, serve as sponsors spon-sors at SUSC. "Each faculty sponsor is hosting an optional on-campus on-campus seminar for students," Pauline H. Nelson, assistant vice-president vice-president for academic affairs and chairwoman of the . telecommunications telecom-munications committee at SUSC, said. "Information "In-formation about the seminar is available in the syllabus for each class or by calling the instructor on SUSC's toll-free line, 1-800-662-1897." "The quality of programs and related materials is excellent, with each course costing in excess of one million dollars to produce," she said. "Fred C. Adams, founding director of the Utah Shakespearean Festival and the faculty sponsor for 'The Shakespeare Plays,' told me that the essays in the class guide are the best writings on Shakespeare he has ever read." Response to the program has been gratifying, she said. "People from as far away as Blanding in southeastern Utah and as far north as Burley, Idaho, and Great Falls, Mont., have found that telecourses meet their needs and have registered for telecourse credit through SUSC. We've been told by PBL representatives that many people wait until after the first class is aired to enroll so we've extended the deadline until Oct. 11." Nelson said. "Detailed course schedules are available through the SUSC Division of Continuing Education or by calling the toll-free number." |
