Show Doctor attends assembly Dr. A. LaMar Graff, Cedar City, recently attended the Annual Scientific Assembly of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) in Las Vegas. Some 4,000 family physicians from around the nation were in attendance at-tendance at the medical education conclave. The local physician, an AAFP member heard renowned speakers discuss health care topics of immediate interest to family doctors both in their everyday practices and in their continual endeavors to keep abreast of the latest advances in medicine. The topics include depression, asthma, nutrition, sleep disorders and antibiotics. He also had an opportunity to attend clinical seminars on 30 different topics and visit more than 100 scientific and 200 technical exhibits. Headquartered in Kansas City, the 50,000-member 50,000-member AAFP is the nation's second largest medical organization. It was the pioneer among medical organizations in requiring its members to take continuing medical education. AAFP members must complete 150 approved hours of mandatory continuing study every three years. Prior to the scientific meeting, Graff took part in the annual meeting of the AAFP's Congress of Delegates, the offical policy-making body. The group met Sept. 19-21. Each of the 54 constituent chapters elects two delegates and two alternates (to serve in the absence of a delegate) to the Congress of Delegates. Graff serves as a delegate. |
