Show Obituaries Reid Gower V V mm Smmmmma REID GOWER, 59, passed away Sept. 25, 1981, in Cedar City of a heart-attack. He was born Dec. 1, 1921, to George Henry and Alice Jean (Delia) Perry Gower. He was the oldest of five children. He married Lewen Orton of Parowan on June 4, 1947, in the St. George LDS Temple. To this marriage were born five children. Gower was an excellent carpenter and craftsman and was a well-known general contractor and businessman in Cedar City for the last 27 years. He and Charles Blackburn Black-burn have owned and operated a large successful suc-cessful commercial construction firm: Blackburn and Gower Construction Co. In 1972 the company He has served with his wife as vice president of the Cedar City Junior High School P.T.A., officer of-ficer and board member of the Escalante Knife and Fork Club and secretary of the YMMIA in the LDS Church of which he was a member. He attended the Cedar City schools and graduated from Cedar High School. He also took some college classes in construction and business management. He was a veteran of World War II, joining the Cedar City Unit of the Utah National Guard in December, 1940. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Cindy, and four sons, Steven Orton, Steward Reid, Connel Orton and Mark Orton, all of Cedar City; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Audree Slack, Tempe, Ariz, and Lou Jean Williams, Roy; two brothers, Warren, Cedar City, and George, Rockville, Maryland. Funeral services wee Monday at 1 p.m. in the Sixth Ward-Cedar North Stake Center. Interment was in the Cedar City Cemetery. was cited by the associated general contractors for outstanding out-standing service to the construction industry and was selected as contractors con-tractors of the year for the association. In 1965 the pair founded a concrete ready-mix plant, Western Rock Products Corp., which has expanded its sales area to two operating plants in Cedar City and St. George. Along with this venture they added the hot mix asphalt operations which supported sup-ported their efforts in building road projects throughout the surrounding states. They also owned the heritage home manufacturing operation and a very successful lumber yard headed and managed by Garth Nelson. In the past year this partnership has been dissolved and Gower and his family are owners and operators of Gower Construction Co., Inc. |
