Show Decision-making process flawed It was interesting to watch the Cedar City Council make the recent decision concerning the abbreviated, adjusted and part-time beer license for the new bowling alley. I was impressed with the owner, who was in attendance at the meeting and obviously in favor of the license, and the way he clearly expressed his about the license and its perceived effects, particularly on local youth. The decision to grant the license in its weekday form was fairly well thought through, considering the emotion of the moment and pressure from both sides. I'm sure, to some, the idea that there was any fuss raised about the issuance of the license was silly and senseless. I guess that depends on what side of the fence you're grazing on. To others, and this negative sentiment sen-timent has been much more frequently expressed to myself than has the positive, though maybe not to others, the Council goofed. The reason people have said they goofed isn't because of the issuance of the license itself as much as it is because of the criteria the issuance was based on. I. Serious league bowlers won't bowl if they can't , drink Hogwash. Many . would certainly enjoy bowling better with brew, but to swallow the fact that they won't bowl without it is harder to swallow than a Coors can whole. That's a weak logical argument. Bowlers will bowl and have been craving it in this area for several years. 2. "We've come this far and can't open or continue without a license" No matter what type of license, hookup or service is desired by a business, they should clear it in advance and not use the fact they've started construction or whatever as leverage to obtain a favorable decision. 3. Finally, a fair-sized crowd attended at-tended the meeting and objected to the license being issued It's kind of . bothersome to see one appeased at the expense of others concerned enough to , .make an appearance. ; I By Mike Cannon feelings on t the subject despite being outnumbered by citizens opposing the issuance of the license. I was equally impressed with those that made the effort to be at the . meeting and express their concerns |
