Show Cleaver defends America An impressive Eldridge Cleaver, a former member of the Black Panther Party and past advocate of Communism, Com-munism, spoke to a receptiveaudience Tuesday at the Cedar High School auditorium and sang praises of Christianity and patriotism. Cleaver traced his steps from a young child in Little Rock, Ark., through his dilinquent teenage days, to his ultimate imprisonment, release and flight throughout Communist countries worldwide. Cleaver's story and message can best be presented in his own words. Here are several memorable quotes taken from his remarks: Prison "Literally every prison in the state of California, I've been in, except for the new ones. The prison is nothing but a school for crime. I really dilligently applied myself to getting all that Christianity out of j me and replace it with communism and j Marxism." The Panthers "I felt that these were the people I wanted to work with. I felt it (Panther name) was a ' zoological approach to politics." Communism Firsthand "I had a chance to see that Communism, at least in Cuba, was npt all that it was cracked up to be. I was, looking for the country that was practicing prac-ticing Communism correctly. In every one of these Communist countries I went to, I had the same disillusioning experience. It struck me that these countries were big prisons without walls." Religion "I could feel something spiritual in my life. I think a lot of people are taking religious matters very seriously." "There was a time I couldn't fix my mouth to say what I've just said." Eldridge Cleaver |
