Show Indian history course slated A new addition to the Southern Utah State College curriculum is a five-credit course tracing the history of American Indians from first European contact to the end of the Civil War. Taught by Jim Vlasich, a new SUSC faculty member specializing in American western history with emphasis on American Indian history, the class is officially designated History 200, History of Indians of the United States to 1868. "The public is encouraged en-couraged to enroll in the course," Vlasich said. "The only prerequisite is an interest in the subject." sub-ject." History 200 is the first in a three-part series now offered at SUSC. Indians after the Civil War to the present will be covered in a five-credit class winter quarter. Indians of the Southwest, a five-credit course specifically designed for this part of the country, will be taught spring quarter. Indians of the Americas will be added to the curriculum next year. It will deal specifically with Indians outside the U.S., those in Canada and South America. Major areas of study fall quarter include the attitudes of colonial powers to the Indians. The course instructor earned his masters and Ph.D. at the University of Utah. |
