Show Rams improve game but still bushwhacked by cowardless Kanab Parowan High football coach Scott Doubek proved to be prophetic last week when he predicted that Parowan would be a totally ' different team Friday against Kanab from what they were during their first encounter. They were indeed different for three and one-half quarters. That half-quarter, half-quarter, or one-eighth of the game for you fraction wizards, proved to be the undoing of the Rams, however. "We looked good for three quarters," explained Doubek. "It was in the third quarter that they wiped us out. It's just strange how we can't get consistent." The Rams played fairly even with the Cowboys throughout the first half and only trailed 12-0 at the intermission. That's a feat few teams have been able to boast about against a tough 1981 Kanab team, especially on their home field. Then the roof caved-in during the third quarter. In the first six minutes of the second half, Kanab scored on plays of 68, 52 and 29 yards. A 68-yard Whit Bunting to Eric Brown pass triggered the explosion. That was followed by a 52-yard Todd Hammond TD jaunt and another 29-yard touchdown touch-down sprint by Hammond. Instead of trailing 12-0 and being in the ballgame, PHS was now down 34-0 and basically out of the action. The Rams buckled down and held the Cowboys scoreless for the rest of the game, but they couldn't genrate any offense themselves. "They had good field position the whole game," said Doubek. Eric Brown was a big factor in the contest. PHS didn't have anyone fast enough to keep up with the speedster. . n.-j v,l'-r.'x Perhaps the biggest blow, of the; night:; : r.v wasn't the score, but the loss of quarterback quar-terback and defensive back Robbie Stevens with a broken foot. Stevens played the entire game and couldn't pinpoint when the foot was broken. He suffered a lot of pain after the encounter en-counter and discovered during last weekend that he had a broken wheel. Doubek will shift Alan Burton back to the quarterback position for tomorrow's game with North Sevier. There were several bright spots for Parowan. "I was pretty well pleased with the defensive line," said Doubek. "They put good pressure on the quarterback but missed a lot of tackles and allowed some big plays on the ground." Stevens rushed for 37 of 40 Parowan rushing yards and he and Doug Spendlove each had an interception. That makes 15 on the year for Parowan. The Rams will face a tough North Sevier t team tomorrow night at North Sevier. |
