Show Youth hack from YCC Several local youth recently returned from spending the summer working at the Gooseberry Youth Conservation . Corps Camp near Richfield. Enrollees from Cedar City were Nanette Grimshaw, Frank and Scott Simpson, Virginia Bell, Steve Rasmussen, Brian Swabbs, Wendy Morgan and Lisa Willman. Also, one of the recreation leaders was Connie Turner, a student at Southern Utah State College. The Gooseberry Y.C.C. Camp is under the direction of the Richfield Ranger District which is located in Fishlake National Forest. The camp was located at the Gooseberry Guard Station, which is approximately ap-proximately 15 miles southeast of Salina. The first day of Y.C. was June 28 when participants par-ticipants were met by a Y.C.C. staff member and taken on a tour of the camp. Y.C.C. participants start their day at 6:30 a.m. when one of the youth leaders bangs on the barracks doors. Participants get dressed, have breakfast and begin work at 7:45. They work in crews of six to ten, take the regulation government lunch break time of 45 minutes and return to camp at 4:30 p.m. Dinner is served at 5:30, and from 6 to 9:30 p.m. some kind of recreation is scheduled, such as volleyball, soft-ball soft-ball and football. Lights are out at 10:15, and bedcheck is at 10:30. |
