Show Star program slated Programs from "Cosmos," a series of scientific explorations spanning the distance from the innermost workings of the human mind to the edge of the universe, will be featured in October at the Southern Utah State College Ashcroft Observatory. Ob-servatory. A different film in the Carl Sagan series will be shown each weekend during the month, beginning with "On the Shores of the Cosmic Ocean" Oct. 2-3. There is no charge for observatory ob-servatory programs, which are conducted each Friday and Saturday at 7 and 8:30 'p.m. "One Voice in the Cosmic Fugue" is the title of the Oct. 9-10 program. "The Harmony of Worlds" will be seen Oct. 16-17, "Heaven and Hell" Oct. 23-24, and "Blues for a Red Planet" Oct. 30-31. Dr. Merrell R. Jones, director of the SUSC observatory, indicated that the "Cosmos" series is also being televised this fall over KUED as part of the Public Broadcasting System's telecourse program, and that it is being offered for credit through SUSC. The Ashcroft Observatory Ob-servatory is located about one and one-half mile 3 west of Cedar City on I tah-56, then another mile and a half south on West View Drive. It was built largely through donations in honor of Theron M. Ashcroft, . professor of physics and engineering at SUSC from 1939 to 1970, and was dedicated last September. |
