Show Historic Preservation Month Other activities during the three days of the conference include an Old-House Flea Market and a Historic Sites Fun Run on Sat., May 24. In an open area around Union Station, buyers and sellers of old-house wares will be able to swap goods throughout the day. Joggers will start at the station and run a course that will pass various Ogden historic sites. There will also be scheduled tours of historic areas in Ogden on Sunday, May 25, in conjunction con-junction with the history department at Weber State College. History, old homes and energy are topics that will be dealt with in May as Utahns celebrate National Historic Preservation Month. The culminating event will be a three-day conference and exhibition, "Old Buildings. . . Presents from the Past: A Renovation and Preservation Preser-vation Idea Market," sponsored by the Utah State Historical Society. The conference and exhibition, to be held May 23-25 23-25 at the historic Union Station in Ogden, provides homeowners, architects, interior designers, developers, preservation groups, and do-it-yourselfers with cost-effective, efficient, and aesthetic means to properly renovate' and rehabilitate old -homes and buildings. This will provide, by far, the most comprehensive com-prehensive collection of hard-to-find products, services and ideas available in the Intermountain region. Local exhibitors as well as exhibitors from, across fhe . country will display and sell 1 everything from stained glass and ceiling fans to antiques and woodworking. A, center of nonprofit associations and service groups will also be set up to answer consumer questions and offer referrals on building restoration and rehabilitation. Admission to the three-day exhibition is free. Two days of workshops will be held Friday and Saturday, May 23 and 24. Sessions will be conducted by local and out-of-state experts on various technical aspects of preservation and restoration. Workshops conducted by the preservation preser-vation staff of the Utah State Historical Society will focus on such topics as moisture problems and deterioration in historic buildings, federal grants-in-aid for preservation projects, and how to nominate a building to the National Register of Historic Places. Other experts will discuss exterior house painting for historic homes and preservation ordinances. or-dinances.
